Visitors can gain an insight into the development of public transport in the Hungarian capital through numerous photographs and historical artefacts, from the opening of the first horse-drawn tram line on 1 August 1866 to the existing and planned metro lines. They can learn about the legal predecessors of the current BKV Zrt. and about transport, the tram network and the vehicles of the major cities in Hungary, both past and present. We display the technical remains of the infrastructure that served the railways, the construction and maintenance of the tracks and overhead lines, telecommunications and power supply, and you can see the former forge of the old depot in Szentendre in its original location. A separate room is dedicated to the history of bus and trolleybus transport in Budapest. Visitors can learn about the types of tickets and company logos used at the time, as well as various vehicle parts and equipment. In addition, the museum welcomes enthusiasts of the past with around 60 restored vehicles. It is not only children who can enjoy climbing on some of the vehicles on display.
