The Greek Catholic basilica is a famous pilgrimage of Mary. On November 14, 1696 watered the Our Lady statue. Later that year it happened a few times more. When Leopold I, Emperor of Austria, this heard, he took the painting to get to Vienna. The inhabitants of Máriapócs were not happy. They put down a copy of the painting in the church. These gave again tears and this happened in 1715 and 1905. Pope Pius XII raised the imposing church from 1756 to the rank of minor basilica. In 1991 also visited Pope John Paul II the church as part of his tour in Hungary.
